Ryan Mallory – Head Coach, Offensive Line
Coach Mallory brings 14 years of coaching experience to Central High School. He has coached at The University of Memphis, Fayette Academy (TN), North Brunswick Township High School (NJ), O’Dea High School (WA), and Union City High School (TN).
Coach Mallory began coaching at the University of Memphis as a student assistant coach under head coach Tommy West and defensive coordinator Joe Lee Dunn. Between 2003 and 2005, the Tigers won 24 games and played in three consecutive bowl games (both school records). After finishing his degree, Coach Mallory spent a year at Fayette Academy as the head coach of the varsity wrestling team and the middle school football team. In 2008 and 2009, Coach Mallory coached at North Brunswick Township High School (NJ), helping the team to a Greater Middlesex County championship and a birth in the NJSIAA playoffs. In 2010, Coach Mallory joined the staff at O’Dea High School in Seattle, Washington. Over the course of two years, the Irish won 22 games, two Metro League championships, and appeared in the WIAA state finals (2011). In 2012, Coach Mallory coached at Union City High School (TN), helping the Golden Tornadoes to 7 wins and a birth in the TSSAA playoffs. In 2013, Mallory helped coach the Central High School wrestling team to a regional championship and a 5th place finish in the state tournament.
Coach Mallory is a native of Seattle, Washington. He attended O’Dea High School, where he was a two-time all-league and all-state linebacker and wrestler. Following high school, Mallory was a walk-on at the University of Memphis.
Mallory teaches English at Central High School and is married to New Jersey-native Nicole Mallory.
Gary Bloodsaw – Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs
Coach Gary Bloodsaw graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BS degree in Education. While attending UTC, he played quarterback on the football team and was a Health and Physical Education major. Immediately after graduating, he started teaching and coaching at Duluth HS in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He coached there for 10 years as an assistant football coach, assistant basketball coach, and head track coach. Shortly after starting his teaching and coaching career, he married his lovely wife of 29 years, Rosalyn. They have 2 beautiful children, Gary III and Gabrielle, both of whom are Central High graduates. He left Duluth and coached for a couple of years in DeKalb County in Georgia before moving by to Chattanooga, his wife’s home town, to teach and coach at Brown Middle School. He has spent 16 years teaching Health and PE at Brown while being the head football coach, the head girls’ basketball coach, and the head track coach. For the past four years he has been working as the head girls’ track coach for Central High. He received his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010 and has been teaching and coaching for 30 years. This year he will be starting his career as assistant football coach for Central High.
Cortney Braswell – Defensive Coordinator
Coach Braswell is a native of Chickamauga, Georgia, and the father of a six year old boy, Cayden J. Braswell. Coach Braswell played his high school ball at the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was named a 2004 Mr. Football Finalist, 1st Team Best of Preps selection 2002-2005, 2-Time first team All-State selection, selected in 2003 as Dynamite Dozen (area’s top 12 junior players), selected in 2005 as Tennessee v Georgia All Star Game Captain, 2-Time State Champion in Track and Field as a sprinter, and holds Baylor School all-time records for rushing yards in a game, career rushing yardage, and rushing touchdowns scored. Coach Braswell played college football at Liberty University under head coach Danny Rocco and began his high school coaching career at Ringgold High School as the Defensive Backs coach. He has served as the Defensive Coordinator at Soddy Daisy High School, East Ridge High School, North Murray High School, and as the Offensive Coordinator at Notre Dame High School, where they won nine games and advanced to the second round of the TSSAA State Playoffs. Coach Braswell is entering his 7th year coaching, sixth as a coordinator.
Glenn Carter – Quarterbacks
Coach Carter graduated From Red Bank High School in 1992. He played baseball at Carson-Newman College and The University of Southern Mississippi. He received a Bachelors Degree in Health and Human Science. He spent 7 years – 1998-2005 – at North Jackson High School in Stevenson Alabama, serving as an assistant football coach and head baseball Coach. Coach Carter came to Central in 2005, and has been the head baseball coach and an assistant football coach since. Coach Carter is married to Lindsey Carter (Walker) and is expecting their first son (Ripken) in September. He also has a 10-year daughter Madison.
Rick Rogers – Defensive Line
Coach Rogers has been a special education teacher and coach during his 24-year tenure at Central. A 1986 graduate of East Ridge High School, he played basketball for UTC and obtained an ED.S degree from Lincoln Memorial University. Coach Rogers is currently Central’s head boys’ basketball coach and father of Madison Rogers. His hobbies include golfing, fishing, and anything with two wheels. Coach Rogers’ would like to help build a championship football program for the school, the community, and the alumni.
Aaron Powell – Wide Receivers
This will be Coach Aaron Powell’s first year with the Chattanooga Central Pounders. Born in Bittburg Germany but raised in Anderson South Carolina, he was a standout Wide Receiver at TL Hanna High School. He comes to Central by way of Lee University and St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Coach Powell has been with Xplosion Dynamix Sports under the guidance of Clinton Spencer for the past six years as both player and trainer. He has previously coached Wide Receivers at Walker Valley High School, and Wide Receivers with the Knoxville Nighthawks, a professional indoor football team.
Coach Powell is a Lee University graduates with a BA in General Studies and plans to attend Lee to receive his MAT. Lee is where he also met his wife, Megan Landes Powell, who is a Lee graduate (07) in Communications and minor in Business.
